Happy New Year and welcome to the first 2017 Marin Lawyer issue. I am the new editor and I would like to thank our outgoing editor, Caroline Joachim, for all of her work to keep the magazine interesting and relevant and for overseeing our transition to the new online format.

Our new MCBA website debuted in September. It allows us to post articles, notices, and other useful information as it becomes available throughout the month. You can visit the news section of the MCBA’s website whenever you like to catch the latest news. The calendar is updated often to help you keep track of MCBA events. Keep up with your section meetings and other relevant section news on the section pages as well. Members still receive a monthly Marin Lawyer email that collects each month’s postings in one place.

I would like to hear from you about issues and events of interest to our members. Is there a new law or case of interest? Do you have something to say about law practice itself, including how you cope with the pressures of practice? Please share your thoughts with me by email.

As Editor, my goal is for Marin Lawyer to be informative and interesting to read. To that end, this month’s issue includes a short note from me introducing a Marin IJ article profiling two of our members, Ford Greene and Larry Bragman, in connection with their trip to Standing Rock. The article serves as an introduction to our article next month by Ford and Larry about the legal issues underlying the Standing Rock controversy. We include the first in an occasional series of short articles by Barbara Monty on forgiveness and its role in the law. Also of interest is an article on changes at the state level that make it easier for homeowners to create in-law dwelling units.

Of course, we continue to include our usual monthly MCBA President’s Message, featured events, court updates, section calendar, and more.

Please make note of our Movers and Shakers feature. Do you have professional news such as a promotion, new addition to your law firm, appointment to a board? Please send your press release to MCBA at email.

We hope you enjoy this issue. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time with your ideas, thoughts, and suggestions.
