For many people in Marin who are in need of legal aid, the Court system is a mystery. Some members of our community desperately need guidance to navigate the Courts. Providing even the most basic information can help people immeasurably. In an attempt to reach out to this community, MCBA, the Court, and the Marin County Law Library are launching Lawyers in the Library beginning October 13, 2016.

Marie Barnes' article in this issue of Marin Lawyer details the program. To make it a success, we need volunteer attorneys. I ask that you consider giving some of your time. Regardless of your specific legal skills, you will be provided training to listen to the folks in need and direct them to the appropriate resource.

The practice of law holds a special place in our society and I trust you understand the satisfaction you will feel by giving a little of your valuable time and experience to help those in need. Helping out with this new program is the right thing to do and I hope you will join me throughout the year as the program takes off.

Coming up October 26 is our Annual Judges Luncheon. Presiding Judge Kelly Simmons will provide an update of the Court. The program is designed to answer questions that you may have about the court. I anticipate a lively discussion. Please email any questions you have in advance to the MCBA office. We will acknowledge our retiring Judges Faye D’Opal and Terrence Boren at the luncheon.

Our Annual MCLE Fair takes place November 16, 2016. The program is designed to provide four MCLE Credits in just one morning. Senator Mike McGuire will speak at the breakfast session. Judge Stephen Freccero will participate in a panel discussion on jury selection at lunch. Early bird registration is open through October 21.
