David Kelly

General Counsel and Vice President Basketball Legal Affairs for Golden State Warriors

David Kelly is in his fifth season with the Golden State Warriors. In the role of General Counsel and Vice President, Basketball Legal Affairs, Kelly serves as the team’s chief legal officer and manages many of the company’s key projects and initiatives on both the business and basketball sides of the operation, including legal matters related to the proposed new sports and entertainment center in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood.

Prior to joining the Warriors, David was a partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP where he provided legal counsel to a variety of sports teams and related clients, including the Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Oakland Athletics, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Blues, Stockton Thunder, Time Warner Cable and Comcast Spectacor, regarding television, radio and internet rights agreements, arena/stadium matters, intellectual property issues, and sponsorship and naming rights agreements. David also advised clients in corporate transactions such as mergers, acquisitions and tender offers; represented underwriters in public offerings; and provided counsel to public companies with respect to securities law compliance, disclosure requirements and corporate governance matters.

David has a passion for music and his work as a musician has been featured on the CBS Evening News and CNN, and in Time Magazine, the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune and the Wall Street Journal.

A native of Chicago, David earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Morehouse College in 1996 and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2004.
